Yesterday both social media and traditional media were awash with news that a fleet of All Terrain Vehicles fully fitted with state-of-the-art communication equipment had been donated to the Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga for use in his political engagements. The incident was reminiscent of the spectacular 2007 Hummer donation to the Raila campaign juggernaut which left the Kibaki government scampering left and right in confusion. Behind yesterday’s donation was the strange name of a Mombasa based businessman whose details now can be revealed.
Although Kenyans are familiar with Mike Rabar of the Homeboyz Entertainment who was among those behind yesterday’s donation, another name that was mentioned alongside his as one of the well-wishers who helped avail the vehicles was Benard Waore. His site says;
Bernard Waore born 1968, Schooled in Shikaadabu Primary 76-82, Aga Khan Mombasa, Allidina Visram before graduating from University of Nairobi with B.Sc in Mechanical Engineering 1993. He is surely a pride of Likoni, worked internationally, before establishing himself in Business.
On his online profiles, Waore describes himself as an engineer with bias in oil and gas operations, loves and lives life humanely. In politics for anchoring Kenya into the world of legislative strength for all
He further divulges that he believes that charity does not alleviate poverty, and that charity demeans humans. Empowering community to be self sustainable is key to community members. To achieve this our efforts shall be in two fronts.
1. Initiating programs that will empower community members and are replicable.
2. National Assembly legislation towards creating a conducive environment for sustainable community.
While it is clear that Waore intends to make a stab for the Likoni parliamentary seat in the 2022 general election, what is equally clear is the titanic battle that he has on his hands. The current Likoni MP, Mishi Mboko, is not only a political heavyweight at the coast, but also an ODM insider. It will be a big deal for Waore to get the Orange Democratic Movement party ticket, let alone edge out Mishi in the main poll.
