In a move to drum up support for his presidential bid ahead of 2022 under his “Hustler Movement”, Deputy President William Ruto is set to tour Raila Odinga’s stronghold in the Luo Nyanza region.
Reports indicate that the second in command will be visiting the Kuria East and Kuria West Constituencies to carry out fundraisers for women and youth empowerment in Migori County.
Confirming the incident, Kuria East legislator Mathias Roba said it was all systems go for the DP’s visit of the area in March this year, to ensure he gets the deserved reception.
While talking to the star, Roba added that Dr. Ruto has had the development of the region at the center of his attention, and the residents are looking forward to meeting him next month.
“We will be with the DP in March in our region. The residents of this region are looking forward to receiving him. He has the interest of our people and that is why he is coming to empower the youth and women,” Robi told the Star on phone.
The visit comes amid calls by the DP’s lieutenants from the Nyanza region calling on the residents to consider the DP in 2022 having been Odinga’s ally during his 2007 quest for Presidency.
During then, the former premier got endorsed by the Kalenjin leaders with an “Arap Mibei” baptismal name as a new beginning to mark the end of the animosity between the two ethnicities.
“The Luo community owes William Ruto a political debt based on his support, commitment, and aggressive campaign for Raila Odinga’s presidential bid in the year 2007,” he said.
He added that the 2022 race will mainly be on the development agenda, and what you can do to the people to improve their livelihoods, with the DP the best fit to deliver.
“We believe a William Ruto-led government will be participatory, all-inclusive, and responsive to the challenges facing the Kenyan majority that revolves around high levels of unemployment, high cost of living, lack of entrepreneurial opportunities, and inadequate means of basic subsistence for the Kenyan majority,” he said.
Owalo also continued that it was the DP who can ensure development to the area without looking into the Country politics and the voting patterns.
“Apart from the DP being ahead of the pack in relation to other 2022 presidential candidates, a Ruto Presidency will guarantee the Lake Region tangible development that entails revitalization of the cotton and sugar industries; value-addition to fishing supply chain, facilitation of an access to credit for trade and entrepreneurship; and infrastructure development as an enabler,” he told the Star.
