Deputy President William Ruto’s allies have threatened to expose those individuals whom they claimed are behind illegal land dealings in the country.
Speaking on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at the Deputy President’s Karen residence in Nairobi County, Ruto’s allies led by Mathira Member of Parliament, Rigathi Gachagua stated that they will reveal the names of individuals behind land grabbing in the country.
The tangatanga leaders were responding to the claims by Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i who gave a list of properties owned by Ruto, after he was summoned by MPs on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.
“Matiang’i has done the right thing by introducing the topic of land ownership…And we will now start addressing land issues now that they have brought up the topic. We want to know who stole Mau Mau parcels of land in Kahawa and in Nakuru; who owns those parcels of land and how many GSU officers are guarding them?” Gachagua posed.
His sentiments were echoed by former Mombasa County Senator, Hassan Omar and Kiambu County Women Representative, Gathoni Wamuchomba.
They thanked Matiang’i for bringing up the issue of illegal land ownership in the country and threatened to expose the different parcels of land allegedly owned by the President.
“If any probing is done, we will find out that the founding fathers of this country were the founding thieves of this country,” Omar stated.
Kiambu Women Representative stated that she was very surprised that Matiang’i brought up a very sensitive matter in public.
“I was very surprised that Matiang’i brought up a very sensitive chapter, and if we start talking about lands being stolen, there are people who are going to go into hiding because we know all about the stolen lands
“There are so many people from my County whose sons and daughters of Mau Mau fighters have no land and they don’t even have a place to bury their family. So when they bring the topic of land, we will turn on the heat and ask very hard questions,” Wamuchomba said.
Ruto on his part set the record straight in regard to the list of his properties exposed by Matiang’i as his during the Parliamentary committee meeting. Ruto noted that out of the tens of properties listed, about 70 percent were true stating that some key details were not included on the list.
“They included properties that I do not own on the list, so allow me to correct them. Out of the ten properties listed, 70 percent are true, the others are false.
“The first on the list that they need to remove is the 10,000 acre ADC Laikipia Mutara Ranch. They also forgot to add that I have 400,000 shares from a local telco company,” Ruto stated.
