Dennis Itumbi to show video of DP Ruto’s La Mada assassination plot

Former statehouse digital strategist Dennis Itumbi and his plans to get off the hook by playing the La Mada video to prove that a meeting that discussed Deputy President William Ruto’s assassination took place.

Itumbi through his lawyer Katwa Kigen applied for the courts to furnish them with a screen to enable them to play the video, ascertaining that indeed a meeting to assassinate the DP was held.

Itumbi is also burdened with proving that the letter he circulated online was not his authoring but a rather follow up on the same.

“There has been this issue of whether the meeting actually took place and the video that the prosecution was availed with, which they had said they would investigate.

We would want to use the same facilitation to play the video to prove whether or not the meeting took place,” Katwa Kigen told Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku yesterday.

Itumbi was accused of authoring a falsified document without the authority and publishing a false statement with his co-accused Samwel Gateri.

According to his lawyer, their only case is Itumbi having forwarded what was already in circulation despite the court’s additional of writing it.

According to the Courts, Itumbi wrote the letter dated May 30, 2019, purporting it to be a genuine document made by a cabinet secretary a fact he knew was false.

He then maliciously published it on June 20, 2019, with the intent of causing anxiety to the public.

He is also charged with re-programming a Samsung Note 9 mobile phone, altering its operating system while not being the manufacturer.

This is after a forensic expert in the case had proven that the said letter was a forwarding.

“We intend to avail the phone that was allegedly used to forward the message or author the message.

We want to demonstrate that indeed you can forward a message and not necessarily show that it has been forwarded,” Kigen told the court.
