Inside sources have revealed that the State House and the deep state is currently divided on what to do with ODM party leader Raila Odinga. The President’s handlers are also reportedly divided on who they should endorse in the 2022 general elections. One faction within the deep state is rooting for the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga while another faction believes that Amani National Congress party leader Musalia Mudavadi would be the right choice.
One camp argues that Raila’s candidature would be difficult to sell in Rift Valley and Mt Kenya while others argue that Mudavadi is sellable in every corner of Kenya. The former premier is said to have been demonized by the Jubilee government in the 2013 and 2017 presidential contests, and it would be difficult to convince the Mt Kenya residents otherwise.
During the past campaign periods, President Uhuru Kenyatta is alleged to have warned the residents not to elect the ODM party leader, calling him a politician who thrives in ethnic division and violence.
This sharp division and the argument that Raila’s candidature is not sellable in Uhuru’s Central Kenya backyard, culminated into one camp opting to bring Musalia Mudavadi , Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula and Baringo senator Gideon Moi together and commit to bankroll their activities.
The new crew was recently together in Machakos in a campaign trail for Agnes Kavindu who is flying the Wiper party ticket in the county’s Senate by-elections. The politicians also hinted at forming a coalition in the run up to the 2022 polls.
An inside source, who confided in this writer, claims that pushing for the alliance of the four national leaders is ostensibly meant to isolate Raila Odinga and to reduce his political momentum.
The other camp ,which has the blessings of the President ,and who are in support of Raila, have challenged the opposition chief to start going on the ground and mainly focus in areas perceived to be Ruto’s bastions. The government is alleged to have committed to provide him with necessary security and logistics as witnessed in his recent rally in Githurai.
