Things get thick for former Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations summoned him to the headquarters to answer questions on allegations he made earlier in the week.
Reports from standard indicate that the former County chief was ordered to appear before the head of the serious crimes unit on Monday, February 8 2021 in-person along Kiambu road.
He will be required to give his account on the claims that in the company of interior Permanent Karanja Kibicho, they planned and executed the poll chaos during the 2017 general elections.
His summon by the serious crimes unit head Obadiah Kuria comes after the interior PS Karanja Kibicho recorded a statement on Monday 25 January 2021.
The PS wants Sonko to be investigated over his remarks at a political function attended by Deputy President William Ruto in Nairobi’s Dagoretti sub-county.
In his address to the public on January 24, 2021, Sonko alleged that he together with Kibicho, and other top government officers stage-managed election skirmishes and blamed it on ODM supporters.
“I want to reveal here that in 2017, I and Kibicho, together with the system, printed ODM T-shirts, bought second-hand cars, then burnt them on Ngong Road to be seen it was ODM supporters that had burnt them,” claimed Sonko.
Addressing the press after recording his statement, Kibicho promised to press charges against Sonko over the allegations and also for the past accusations that had gone unpunished.
“I walked to DCI to record a statement against Sonko because he needs to come on the table and provide evidence on the criminality he is alleging we committed with him.
“Sonko has continued assassination of my character since he left the seat… As a private citizen, I have broken the cycle and decided enough is enough… He has made very very wild allegations against me…Sonko should give answers and say where we were in 2017 together with him,” stated Kibicho.
“He better be prepared, he has admitted to committing a crime… He will deal with my character assassination. I’m going for him this week,” he added
