CS Peter Munya: Wars in Yemen and Somali brought Locusts to Kenya

The new Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya now claim the millions of locusts that have currently invaded Northern part of Kenya are fleeing wars in Yemen and Somalia. While speaking to the press at Kilimo House, CS Peter Munya also told Kenyans to stop sending locust photos to Kilimo House to help in controlling the destructive pests have so far mowed over five counties.

”The wars in Yemen and Somalia have made it quite a challenge to contain the desert locusts. They are moving from the two warn torn nations into Kenya but we are doing all it takes to eliminate them. We are employing technology, so stop sending us the photos,” he said.

Munya, previously the CS for Trade and Industrialization takes over Agriculture ministry after a string of poor performance from his predecessor Mwangi Kiunjuri, whose tenure was dogged with controversies and scandals.

Munya has allocate 30 M shillings to fight the pests that have invaded counties of Mandera, Wajir, Marsabit, Garissa, Isiolo, Meru, Samburu and Laikipia. The invasion has been categorized as a national disaster and the government is pulling down all stops to make sure it is contained.
