Six police officers linked to the murder of two Embu brothers in Kianjakoma, Embu County, will be detained for 14 days pending completion of investigation.
The six; Corporal Benson Mbuthia, corporal Consolata Kariuki, Constable Martin Wanyama, Constable Lilian Cherono, Constable Nicholas Sang and Constable James Mwaniki, were presented before principle magistrate Daniel Ndugi at the Milimani Law court.
The court ruled that the 14-day detention period as had been requested by the prosecution lawyers was fair enough since its a complex matter of great national interest.
The prosecution in this case is led by Assistant DPP Jacinta Nyamosi while the LSK represented by Nelson Havi is representing the family of the deceased.
“The court cannot close its eyes to the fact that the six are police officers and can interfere with witnesses. The people of Embu and Kenyans want to know what happened to the two brothers,”Magistrate Daniel Ndugu said.
The court further said the officers detention will be for their own safety because if released, there may be chaos.
“The officers were arrested yesterday and if they are released now there may be anarchy as Kenyans may react to their release,”
“I therefore allow the application of their detention at Capitol Hill Police station four 14 days.” He added.
The case will be mentioned on August 31.
