Citizen TV’s Waihiga Mwaura’s first message after being trolled for winning Annual Journalism Excellence Award

Citizen TV news anchor Waihiga Mwaura has spoken delivering a strong message hours after claiming the Investigative Reporting award in the just recent 9th edition of the Annual Journalism Excellence Awards (AJEA) 2021.

In his message, while thanking the entire team who made Mara heist a success including his bosses at the Royal media services, Waihiga noted that the award was a joint effort.

The journalist went ahead to thank the love of his life Joyce Omondi whom he referred to as his executive creative director in the message.

Waihiga’s win came under fire after a section of viewers and netizens yesterday trooped online questioning the criteria used in arriving at his win.

Others who also won the awards are KTN’s Timothy Otieno who won the Journalist of the year award in the TV category while Asha Mwilu, alongside Nelson Aruya also won the Covid-19 reporting award.

NTV’s Dennis Okari also won the Health Reporting Award for his Red Alert feature in 2019 over his expose to the dirty dealings in the meat and food industry.

Other journalists who won awards include; Mercy Tyra, Daniel Kaburu, Ruth Keah, Yahya Mohammed, and Maurice Oniang’o among others.
