Catholic Church Leaders Push For Uhuruto Handshake

A section of allies of Deputy President William Ruto have come out to push for the follow up on the recent offer from Catholic bishops to reconcile the DP and his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The two leaders, who once donned matching shirts and ties, have since fallen out, with their allies follow wing sit and bashing each other on a regular basis.

Recently, Catholic bishops offered to unite them, warning that their fights and verbal exchange are bad for peace in the country and could result in unrest if not tamed and addressed as early as now.

While the DP would a day later emerge to say that he is ready for the proposed reconciliation talks, the President has remained silent, with the DP’s allies from North Rift demanding that it be pursued.

Led by Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto, they demanded that ODM leader Raila Odinga too be included in the reconciliation talks, hoping that the peace that will follow this will be very beneficial.

“Peace is the most important thing and those pushing for reconciliation between the two are doing a good thing, we are one hundred percent behind their calls. We want all the leaders, including Raila, to also be included,” he said in West Pokot on Sunday.

West Pokot County Assembly Speaker Catherine Mkeyang’ echoed the lawmaker’s remarks, saying that it is only through peace at the top leadership level that the government can be able to deliver.

She blamed the currently bad blood between Ruto and Uhuru, who has teamed up with Raila against the DP, that the government is sluggish in delivering on the premises it gave to Kenyans while taking over.

“We support the initiative because the ongoing bickering has cost us. The government has stopped operating because the Deputy President has left to concentrate on his own things,” she said.

Ruto has blamed his decision to abandon the president on Uhuru’s decision to include Raila in the running of government. He has accused Raila of using the opportunity to plant confusion in Jubilee.

He has also been bitter with the President for allegedly dropping him and picking Raila as his preferred successor in the approaching 2022 polls.
