Over the last couple of days, comedian Eddie Butita has been all over the news spitting venom in all directions, something that has led observers to conclude that perhaps he has a huge launch to be soon unveiled, and is seeking publicity. Soon after reports of a clash between him and fellow comedian Eric Omondi surfaced, Butita launched a scathing attack on his earlier boss on The Trend, Amina Abdi Rabar and the show itself. In his latest outburst, he has now roped in none other than the former Prime Minister himself, Raila Odinga.
Butita was speaking on ntv’s Churchill Show, the My Journey Series, hosted by his previous boss and top comedian Dan Ndambuki popularly known as Churchill.
Butita began with the heartbreaking story of his struggles before he made it as a top comedian, and how he would spend nights at Kencom bus stop. While it was pretty easy to find a matatu at late-night hours that could take him to Kariobangi which was where he stayed, the problem was insecurity in the area. Butita would find himself stuck in town at late hours in his pursuit of comic success, and with nowhere to go, he, and a bunch of other budding comedians, would spend the night at KENCOM bus stop.
After almost ten trips to Churchill to audition, the judges eventually gave him a spot on the following week’s show. However, shock was to ruin his week when news came in on set that the Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, would be attending the show and so this meant that the original schedule had to be scrapped off. This was way back in 2011. A sad Butita was crushed when the opportunity to appear on the country’s top show slipped through his fingers as he watched.
Unfortunately for him, the worst was yet to come. After this setback the show took a break and wouldn’t come back on air until 2013. Once again, after a chance to appear on the popular Churchill Show came his way, he did appear this time round. However, there was a blackout in his Kariobangi neighbourhood and so his family and friends ended up not seeing him shine in the spotlight.
