Big Boost For Raila As Governor Lee Kinyajui Vows To Rally Nakuru Residents Behind Him In 2022

ODM leader Raila Odinga has received yet another endorsement for his presidential bid as he aims at succeeding the outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta in next year’s general elections.

Raila has been crisscrossing the country in search of support and was on Tuesday in Nakuru, where he asked locals to join his bandwagon and help him ascend to the top seat in his fifth candidacy.

He received the endorsement of area governor Lee Kinyanjui, who assured the former Premier of his support, adding that though he has never voted for him, he will be doing it next year.

He also predicted that his entire county will support Raila, who weeks ago took to the same county, in Nakuru Town, to launch his ‘Azimio La Umoja’ roadmap, one which he intends to use next year.

“Raila I have never voted for you the six times I have voted. But in the coming year I see that changing,” said the county chief who is now being seen as one of the leaders they could deputise Raila next year.

Interestingly, he was only recently calling for a truce between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto, one that could see the President withdraw his backing for Raila and shift it to Ruto.

“While intentions of the Catholic Bishops’ were noble, junior politicians seeking relevance through insults and cheap propaganda will not want a ceasefire,” he had said in Nakuru last Friday.

He has been proposed as Raila’s running mate, alongside former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, Agriculture CS Peter Munya, Laikipia Governor Nderitu Muriithi and Anne Waiguru of Kirinyaga.

Raila urged Nakuru residents to unite behind him, as that is the only way the change he wants can be realized, insisting that he is looking for partners whom he can work with and not followers.

“I came to Nakuru and launched my blueprint because Nakuru is the home of Kenya’s politics. The journey to uniting Kenyans has started. We will not build this Kenya if we do not unite,” he said.
