Central Organization of Trade Unions in Kenya (COTU-K) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has landed yet another international appointment.
In a statement issued on Friday, August 13, 2021, the COTU announced that Atwoli had been appointed the Chairman of the Global Worker’s Awareness Fund based in Sydney, Australia.
Atwoli will serve in his new appointment for a period of three years with the main duty of creating awareness on social, economic and political issues.
“COTU (K) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli was today elected as the chairman of the Global Worker’s Awareness Fund that is based in Sydney, Australia, for the next three years. The objective of the fund is to create awareness on social economic and political issues,” COTU stated.
His new role is devoted to promoting social justice and internationally recognized human and labour rights as enshrined in International Labour Organization under United Nations Agency.
His appointment comes just months after he landed another prestigious role.
Atwoli was re-elected for a fourth time as a Member of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Governing Body on June 14, 2021, which is based in Geneva, Switzerland.
The President of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) Africa region, Mody Guiro and other 5000 delegates had endorsed Atwoli in May, 2018 and was elected as the Member of ILO at a conference held in Switzerland.
Atwoli who has served as the Trade Union since 2001 was re-appointed for the fifth term in office as COTU Secretary General on April 9, 2021. He was re-elected unopposed which granted him another five-year term in office.
