Anti-riot Police Officers were yesterday evening Friday September 3, 2021, spotted near Deputy President William Ruto’s Karen Residence in Nairobi, sending uneasiness among his allies.
Report from the DP’s camp indicate that they spotted the anti riot officers roaming around the second in command’s official residence while he was hosting a meeting with the youth leaders from Nairobi yesterday.
Those who were around the DP’s home were forced to flee for the fear of the brutal unit who are who are infamous for dispersing gatherings rather violently and on short notice.
Confirming the incident, Deputy President’s spokesperson Emanuel Talam noted that indeed they had spotted the anti riot police squad while terming their presence around as an “intimidation tactic”.
Mr. Talam went on to question why the police would be deployed around the DP’s official residence just as he meets with the youth leaders from around Nairobi just as he has been doing with some other leaders across the Country.
Addressing the issue, police spokesman Bruno Shioso dismissed the claims that the police were deployed to instill fear in the DP allies who were meeting with the leaders of youth groups around Nairobi.
“It’s our business to maintain security and we patrol each and every corner of this city to make sure that security is tight,” the Police spokesperson stated.
The incident comes barely a week after the Deputy President’s security recently suffered a security downgrade, with speculations rife of the high profile calls made among the security bosses to help in effecting the changes.
Reports indicated that a top officer received a call from a senior official within the DP’s security circle, seeking clarification on a new directive issued to all police chiefs in Nairobi to stop political gatherings like the ones recently taking place at the DP’s official Karen residence.
The DP was reportedly informed of the new order to stop the gatherings but it was not observed leading to things taking the dramatic turn leading to the reshuffle and subsequent replacement with the APs.
Senior security officials felt that the DP’s security officials had not dealt with the matter properly and more high-level calls to the GSU headquarters.
