DP Ruto’s latest campaign strategy of roping in ODM, and by extension, NASA, into the mess of the Jubilee government’s failed campaign pledges, and corruption scandals, has received a big blow after yet another massive scandal that took place before the election, and before the handshake, was exposed, revealing the extent of the rot that had been eating away at the Jubilee government.
Former Principal Secretary Sports Kirimi Kaberia, and current holder of the post Joe Okudo appeared before the Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly on Thursday to shed more light on the matter. The committee learnt that the company went off the grid without prior warning after it received Sh330.5 million to install security equipment at various stadiums ahead of the African Nations Championship (Chan 2018) which was shifted from Kenya by CAF following the instability arising after the 2017 election.
The committee, chaired by Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi, was told that the company that had been contracted to carry out the security equipment installations was called MS Auditel Limited, and it ceased to operate after it was declared bankrupt, occasioning yet another major loss by the exchequer.
In what is bound to sound like a suspicious submission, former National Assembly Majority Leader, and Garissa Township MP Aden Duale, who also happens to be a member of the committee, and a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, said that they had tried to contact representatives of the firm to have them appear before the committee, but they had been unsuccessful. .
“As a committee, we were unable to confirm whether this company is in existence or not. We could not even get them to come before us. Auditel had an office in Lavington and Westlands, but after being paid disappeared into thin air and could not be traced,” said Duale.
