Aladwa declares that Raila is President as rumours of Raila-Uhuru rift persist.

Even as unconfirmed reports of wrangles rocking the two-year romance between ODM and Jubilee continue to be whispered, the latest statement by Makadara MP, and ODM Chairman Nairobi branch continues to raise eyebrows and further complicate the already puzzling situation.

Speaking during a BBI popularisation tour in Westlands, Aladwa was part of a huge entourage that snaked from Muruku all the way to Kangemi. He made the potentially controversial statement when speaking about ODM, and saying how it still remains the most popular party in the country. He rallied the crowd, asking them what their party of choice was, to which the crowd roared ODM. He repeated the question to which the crowd once again shouted ODM. It was at this point that he declared, “And Raila is our president”.

Aladwa’s declaration was reminiscent of the post-election period after the 2017 polls, when Raila Odinga swore himself in as the people’s president. The country was rife with talk of two presidents, and depending on who you spoke to, each person professed loyalty to either Uhuru Kenyatta, or Raila Odinga.

The fall out from Raila Odinga’s swearing in reached a climax when those individuals that were involved with his swearing in began being targeted for punitive action by the government. Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang’, who was the one that administered the oath was arrested and detained for questioning, while former adviser to the Prime Minister, Miguna Miguna, was exiled to Canada, a displacement that he is forced to contend with to date.

Since then the threat of formation of a parallel government, and of a section of the country seceding and forming a different geographical entity, have always been counted as some of the greatest tragedies that would have befallen the country, and which were avoided with the handshake between Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta.
