6 people dead, several others injured in a grisly road accident

Six people lost their lives while seven others got seriously injured in a road accident that took place on Friday, March 5, 2021 at night in Njoro, Nakuru County.

The accident happened when a car that they were traveling in lost direction and crashed into a ditch at Muthera farm in Njoro, Nakuru County.

The bodies of the deceased were removed and taken to Egerton University campuses while seven others who escaped death with serious injuries were taken to Nakuru Level Five Hospital where they are receiving treatment.

This was confirmed by Nakuru County Police Commander Tito Kilonzi who said that the accident happened at the intersection of the large farm.

“The victims were in a truck whose driver lost control and headed for the ditch. Six people lost their lives there. Seven are in critical condition and a few others sustained minor injuries,” Kilonzi said.

An eye witness at the scene of accident, Patrick Njoroge said that the truck driver was speeding and lost control after overtaking another vehicle in a corner thereby causing the accident.

“The driver tried to overtake another vehicle but lost control of the truck, veered off the road and hit the embankment before landing on its side,” Njoroge said.

Mr. Njoroge noted that the victims of the accident were mostly farm workers who bordered a truck that was carrying loads and luggage on their way home after work.

“The victims were farm workers on their way home after work. The truck was carrying loads and luggage. By the time we removed the lot, six of them had already been crushed to death,” Njoroge added.
