Deputy President William Ruto is set to lose big with 500 leaders from the expansive Mount Kenya region set to dump him and publicly endorse Raila Odinga over the weekend after a costly blunder.
The leaders are set to sever ties with the DP and troop to Bondo over the weekend with reports indicating that the move has the full blessing of State House.
The Star reported that recent outbursts by DP Ruto’s Tanga Tanga MPs who recently hurled insults at President Uhuru Kenyatta’s family angered the elders and prompted them to cut ties with the DP with some opining that the errant MPs had the full blessings of the DP.
Sources familiar with the developments revealed to the publication that insults directed to former First Lady Mama Ngina by known Ruto allies pushed them closer to backing Raila.
The situation was made worse by the chaos that was witnessed at DP Ruto’s events in the recent past, with the highlight being the chaotic visit in Murang’a in which two people died.
