Details have emerged on a deal reached by Raila Odinga and his handshake partner President Uhuru Kenyatta that will see Deputy President William Ruto support the BBI report after the handshake duo made some concessions.
It has since emerged that Raila Odinga gave up several proposals that he was passionate about as he and Uhuru reached out to opposing camps in the spirit of building consensus and having a referendum that will not lead to further divisions in the country.
The Star quoted DP Ruto’s spokesman conveying that most of the issues that the DP raised have been addressed even as it emerged that the second in command is in consultation with his allies that could see him support the document.
“Most of the issues he raised have been addressed. Although there are a few other people who are still unhappy progress has been made. It is not too late to build further consensus,” stated Tallam.
Among the demands that the ODM party leader is understood to have given up after a series of meetings with various interest groups is the re-vetting of current IEBC Commissioners.
Raila is also reported to have given up his call for the Senate to vet and approve nominees to constitutional and independent offices.
In the wake of the changes to accommodate the DP Ruto is reported to have held consultative meetings with his most trusted allies to plot the way forward after pro-longed isolation during which he opposed the BBI report.
