15 dead, scores critically injured in tragic highway accident

At least Fifteen people were earlier today confirmed dead in a grisly highway accident that involved two buses that were traveling along Mombasa- Malindi highway.

The accident involved one Muhsin bus from Mombasa to Garissa that collided head-on with a Sabaki shuttle minibus that was heading to Mombasa from Marereni.

Confirming the incident, Kilifi county commissioner Kutswa Olaka said that 15 people died on the spot and another 14 were injured in the deadly crash.

The drivers both the ill-fated vehicles died on the spot, with reports further indicating that several Kilifi county government employees also perished in the morning crash.

Eyewitness account of the event said the bus heading to Garissa was overtaking when it lost control hitting the shuttle killing several and leaving many others in critical condition.

They blamed the ongoing road construction for the cause of the accident as the road was raised and has not been completed for months.

A combined effort of Police, Kenya Red Cross, Kilifi county government officials, and well-wishers responded first to take the injured to hospital.
