Hon. Dr. Japheth Kaluyu, a Kenyan-born former Wall Street executive with a rich scholarly background, has officially declared his intention to contest the presidency in the 2027 general elections under the Unified Change Party (UCP).

A previous contender in the 2017 presidential race, where he garnered more than 50,000 votes as an independent candidate and ranked among the top finalists, Dr. Kaluyu is determined to make Kenya the economic hub and gateway to Africa through people-centered leadership and visionary governance.

The renowned scholar believes that Kenya’s potential remains untapped due to inefficiencies in government. He promises to address the high cost of living, reduce unnecessary government expenditures, and bring accountability to public service.

“My vision is to transform Kenya into Africa’s economic hub. This begins with running an efficient government. We must cut unnecessary costs, such as the president having 50 cars or MPs requiring excess security. These resources can be redirected to critical sectors,” Kaluyu emphasized.

Dr. Kaluyu also plans to grow the economy by creating opportunities and cutting taxes. He argues that overtaxing citizens stifles economic growth and reduces disposable income.

“A government’s role is to create jobs and opportunities, not burden people with higher taxes. Reducing taxes will stimulate investment and economic activity,” he stated.

Fighting corruption is a cornerstone of Dr. Kaluyu’s campaign. With a clean track record and no history of corruption allegations, he promises to bring integrity back to leadership.

“Corruption has paralyzed Kenya’s progress. I will ensure public officials are held accountable and that public funds are used to benefit the people,” he declared.

A key part of his plan includes integrating the diaspora community into Kenya’s economic development. Dr. Kaluyu acknowledges the critical role played by Kenyans abroad in contributing to the country’s GDP.

“The diaspora is an untapped resource in governance. They bring income and ideas, yet they remain ignored. I will ensure their inclusion to spur development,” he noted.

Dr. Kaluyu also criticized President William Ruto’s leadership, citing poor delegation of power and duties and unfulfilled promises.

“Leadership is about trusting your team, not doing everything yourself. President Ruto needs to surround himself with competent advisors who prioritize Kenya’s interests over personal gain,” he said.

As the flagbearer of the Unified Change Party (UCP), Dr. Kaluyu plans to introduce bold reforms, including universal healthcare, job creation, and reducing the cost of living. His fresh vision, combined with his clean track record, positions him as a strong alternative to President Ruto in the 2027 elections.
