Deputy President William Ruto donated Sh2 million to boda boda Saccos and small scale traders in Awendo, Migori County on Saturday, September 25.
Speaking in Awendo town when he was hosted by Migori Governor Okoth Obado and a host of county and national leaders, Ruto gave Sh1 million contribution for the construction of Awendo Central SDA Church, Sh1.4 million for 40 boda boda Sacco groups and Sh 500,00 for women traders in Awendo town in a move he said will help to build hustlers.
“The money I gave given is little. Next year if elected president we won’t give money in cash. We will set aside Sh120 million in every Constituency to empower small-scale traders such as boda boda operators and mama mbogas,” Ruto said.
The DP further gave out Sh20,000 to a woman who he spotted carrying an umbrella, and asked if she could pass it to him, and the woman did. He thereafter asked for Sh20,000 from his bodyguard in the car and handed over the money to the woman.
Meanwhile, in the race for succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta, the DP called on the President and ODM leader Raila Odinga to support his presidential bid in the upcoming 2022 General Elections.
Ruto said while he was the ODM deputy party leader, he supported Raila in the 2007 elections and helped him to secure the Prime Minister seat. He also said he helped Uhuru win two terms in Jubilee.
