Deputy President William Ruto’s camp today took a swipe at Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) boss Francis Atwoli for saying the DP will not succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2022 Presidential race.
On Wednesday, speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, Atwoli said DP Ruto’s political vehicle (UDA) will serve in the opposition adding that Ruto is not going to win the election.
“Take it from me. I am just a man of God. He will not win elections. If you are to win and you are working with someone who is ahead of you, support this person until the end,” he said.
Atwoli said you don’t prepare hurdles for this person for you to win.
“You can get it if your are humble and avoid chest-thumping. Today( Yesterday’s Mashujaa day) he addressed us as if he is in the government. And when you are in a meeting you criticise the same person who is supposed to bless you,” he added.
Speaking during Citizen TV day break show, Mathira Member of Parliament, Rigathi Gachagua, an ally of DP Ruto, said that Atwoli is just like any other Kenyan who has the right to support any Presidential candidate.
He however noted that its the people of Kenya who have the authority to elect any person they want come 2022 general elections.
“He is entitled to his opinion. He has been supporting Raila Odinga all days but he has never made him President,” he said.
He further claimed that Atwoli has no political influence in Western Kenya, saying that he once contested for a parliamentary seat but failed to get even one thousand votes.
