CCTV Footage Showing How Rex Masai Was Gunned Down to Death Emerges

Newly surfaced CCTV footage has shed light on the tragic killing of Rex Kanyike Masai, a 29-year-old activist who was shot during a protest against the Finance Bill 2024 in Nairobi’s Central Business District.

The incident occurred on Thursday, June 20, and has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice among Kenyans.

The footage reveals that the shooting took place at around 7 pm along Moi Avenue. Protesters had been pushed back by police from various locations, including Kenyatta Avenue and City Hall Way, and had gathered outside Moi Avenue.

As tensions eased, the group began dancing to music from a nearby club, seemingly unaware of the impending danger.

Suddenly, a police officer in plain clothes, identifiable by his cap and white sneakers, emerged from the crowd. The officer started shooting at the group in an apparent effort to disperse them.

In the chaos, Rex Masai was hit in the leg and collapsed on the road, crying out for help. Despite the desperate efforts to save him, Masai was rushed to Bliss Hospital on Moi Avenue, where he was pronounced dead while receiving medical attention.

The release of this footage has intensified public demands for accountability.

Many Kenyans are outraged by the apparent use of excessive force by the police during what was a peaceful protest. T
