Makongeni MCA and Nairobi County Assembly Minority Leader Peter Imwatok has been accused of attempting to solicit a bribe from Busia gubernatorial aspirant Engineer Vincent Sidai in exchange for influencing the ODM party ticket in the county’s 2027 race.
According to sources close to the matter, Imwatok allegedly approached Sidai with a proposal to “smoothen the path” for his endorsement by key figures within ODM’s top leadership, in return for a hefty financial kickback.
“He hinted that with the right token of appreciation, certain doors at the party headquarters could open faster for Sidai. It wasn’t a direct demand, but the message was clear,” a source familiar with the meeting claimed.
This comes as Imwatok has been seen in various public gatherings throwing his weight behind the engineer, stating that it was time for him to join ODM.
His remarks have raised political tension in Busia, as the ODM ticket is currently held by Governor Paul Otuoma, who is expected to defend his seat in 2027.
“He also approached a senior government official who has been making waves in Busia after announcing his bid for office, and asked for millions but the request was declined,” the source added.
Imwatok’s open endorsement of Sidai, despite Otuoma’s incumbency, is now being viewed in a new light — with critics suggesting it may have been part of a behind-the-scenes strategy to influence the party’s nomination process in exchange for financial gain.
