Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiangi attended a Gusii leaders meeting in a Nairobi hotel, chaired by Education Cabinet Ezekiel Machogu. Other attendees included solicitor general nominee Shadrack Mose, former Deputy Majority Leader Jimmy Angwenyi, and wealthy businessman John Simba. The meeting was held in preparation for President William Ruto’s upcoming tour of the Gusii region and homecoming ceremony for CS Machogu later in the month.

This meeting was the first the former CS attended with other Gusii leaders since leaving office. Some of the leaders attending had not met with the former CS since August last year when the country went to the polls.

The meeting follows an alleged State House meeting hosted by President Ruto two days ago, which was attended by MPs Anthony Kibagendi, Patrick Osero, and Dr. Daniel Manduku, all elected on the ODM party ticket.

During the meeting, Education CS Machogu vowed to unite all Gusii leaders despite their perceived past and present political affiliations. He emphasized that his interest is to have the community realize its development agenda and that no region would be left out.

Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka and Nyamira counterpart Okongo Omogeni called on the State to respect Matiangi and any other top government official who served in the last regime, while South Mugirango MP Slyvanous Osoro and North Mugirango counterpart said Matiangi should meet with other Gusii leaders and seek forgiveness on those he might have closed paths with.
