Ojenge’s late Penalty secures 2-2 draw against Zetech as Struggling Transnzoia Falcons Frustrates Thika Queens in Kitale
Thika Queens Mary Ojenge’s late-gasp penalty helped her side secure a 2-2 draw against Zetech Sparks at the Gems Cambridge Stadium.
Abdalla Fridhaus had put zetech ahead in the the 57th minute before former Gaspo FC defensive midfielder Shery Andiba maintained the score at 1-1 in the 62nd minute.
Five minutes later, Mercy Njeri doubled the score to 2-1.
Ojenge’s Mary stoppage time goal secured a 2-2 draw for for the visitors leaving both side on one point in their first match of the Kenya Women Premier league that kicked-off today.
The first half ended in a 0-0 draw. Zetech Sparks Yvonne Khavere tried to convert from an awarded free-kick but Ulinzi Starlets Mercy Airo kicked the ball out from the danger zone.
In the 16th minute, Zetech Sparks Violet Otieno made an attempt at opening the scores, however, the Ulinzi goalkeeper barred the ball from entering the net.
Ulinzi Starlets Mercy Airo made an attempt for a goal in the 35th minute but the ball was deflected outside by the post.
After the breather, Zetech Sparks forward Puren Alukwe made an attempt to bag the first goal of the season for Zetech Sparks in the 51st minute, but the ball went over the bar.
Six minutes later, Fridhaus Abdalla nicked the lead for Zetech Sparks. Ulinzi Starlets however equalized the scores in the 62nd minute through Sheril Andiba’s goal.
In the 68th minute, Mercy Njeri broke the stalemate as she headed in the ball for Zetech Sparks after converting from a cross in the penalty area.
Five minutes were added to regulation time, in which Ulinzi Starlets forward Mary Ojenge leveled the scores through a penalty in the 95th minute, sealing the scores at 2-2.
