Keroche founder and chief executive officer (CEO) Tabitha Karanja has revealed her late daughter Tecra Muigai gave her boyfriend Omar Lali over KSh 500,000 in a period of six months.
The Keroche boss said she was surprised that her daughter would pay Lali’s bills yet she was younger than him.
Karanja made these damning accusations on Tuesday, March 9, during the inquest into Tecra’s death, where she said the deceased transferred the hefty cash into her lover’s accounts between September 2019 and March 2020.
Lali, who had been arrested as the main suspect in Tecra’s death was missing in the hearing and was not represented.
The Keroche heiress died in the afternoon of Saturday, May 2, following a tragic accident in a house in which she was living with Lali.
Lali, 50, was subsequently arrested on May 4, 2020, and detained for 21 days on suspicion he was involved in her death.
Witness Peter Kariuki, a friend of the family testified during the inquest and spoke on Lali’s short temper.
Kariki said at one time, during a trip to Mt Elgon, Tecra’s lover got vexed and she had to calm him down.
He said Lali was always uncomfortable whenever anyone joined them and would often isolate himself in the presence of a stranger.
Kariuki revealed Tecra told him that she and Lali had frequent fights.
“Most of the arguments were on why Omar was not listening to her or why he did not want anybody around her,” he told the court.
