The Kenya High Commission in London has issued an urgent advisory for Kenyans living in the UK to exercise caution as widespread riots erupt in response to a tragic mass stabbing in Southport.
This violence, which resulted in the deaths of three young girls, has ignited anti-immigration sentiments and protests that have rapidly spread across major cities, including Liverpool, Manchester, and Bristol.
“We urge all Kenyans to be vigilant and follow local authorities’ guidance during this volatile period,” said a spokesperson for the High Commission. “Safety is our top priority.”
The unrest began with demonstrators protesting against hotels housing asylum seekers, leading to violent clashes with police, looting, and damage to public property. “This is not protest; this is organized crime that has no place in our country,” declared Prime Minister Keir Starmer during an emergency COBRA meeting.
Reports indicate that several police officers have been injured, and numerous asylum seekers are living in fear as rioters escalate their attacks. The High Commission is facilitating a registration system for Kenyans for efficient communication and support amid the turmoil.
In an emergency, Kenyans are advised to reach out to the High Commission via email or phone. The mission continues to monitor the situation closely, hoping for a swift return to peace and community stability.
“Together, we will navigate through these challenging times,” the High Commission’s statement concluded.
