Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi has said he will concede defeat if Azimio presidential aspirant Raila Odinga beats Deputy President William Ruto in August 9 polls.
Speaking in an interview with KBC radio on Tuesday, April 5, Mudavadi reiterated that we live in a democratic country and the people decide who they want.
On the question of President Uhuru Kenyatta endorsing Raila, the ANC leader said he had no problem because the Head of State is just exercising his constitutional right.
The former Vice President also explained his fallout with ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Mudavadi said that after the 2017 General Elections, together with other National Super Alliance co-principles, they realised they were not reading from the same script as the former prime minister.
According to the former Vice president, Raila made decisions by himself, including the handshake without involving any of his coalition partners.
He noted that this is what greatly influenced his decision to ditch the man he has supported twice for the presidency, for an alliance with deputy president William Ruto.
In the interview, Mudavadi noted that the ODM leader has changed and is no longer the person he knew.
“The Raila we see now is not the person I knew before. I didn’t need anyone to convince me about him then but now things are different.”
Mudavadi who was the chief campaigner for Raila in the 2017 elections recently switched camps to DP Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza alliance.
Things started going south between Raila and his co-principals after his March 9, 2018 handshake with President Uhuru, which they claimed to have been left out of.
It later escalated to their share of the political parties fund which only ODM qualified to get from the coalition.
ANC, Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper and Moses Wetang’ula’s Ford Kenya parties demanded a share of the money.
Mudavadi and Wetang’ula cuurrently support Ruto, while Kalonzo is working Raila Odinga under the Azimio-One Kenya Alliance.
