Kenya Police now reveals why Musa Otieno resigned after losing against Homeboyz
Hours after their loss to Kakamega Homeboyz on Saturday at the Langata Complex, Former Kenya international Musa Otieno announced his resignation as Kenya Police’s assistant coach.
Otieno confirmed to a local daily that he stepped down from his role at the club “saying it is a long story for another day.”
Sources at the club who spoke on condition of anonymity said leadership wrangles have led to the poor start to the new season.
There have been reports of interference and conflict of interest within the club and Otieno’s departure could be a result of what has been a simmering problem.
Earlier last week, there were reports that Otieno and Omolo were set to tender their resignations over what was described as difficult working conditions but that did not materialize until Saturday when the most-capped Harambee Stars player in history walked out. Omolo’s fate at the club remains unclear.
Otieno joined the club in March alongside head coach Sammy “Pamzo” Omollo. This was after the club parted ways with former coach John Bobby Ogolaa and technical director Lukas Tott.
After being promoted to the topflight league in July last year, the club spent heavily but failed to perform well. They finished ninth last season with 47 points, 19 behind leaders Tusker.
Meanwhile, Kakamega Homeboyz recorded their second win of the campaign, dispatching Kenya Police FC by a solitary goal at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang’ata.
Moses Shumah struck right at the death after Sammy Pamzo Omollo’s backline allowed the new signing an easy time on the ball, allowing him to slot home comfortably.
Kakamega Homeboyz coach John Baraza was elated with the win saying his team deserved to reap maximum points after missing some clear cut chances.
“Shumah is a young player who has been with the team for just two weeks but has been doing well in training. He has done well even though the game was evenly contested by both teams. The win will help build confidence in my squad for upcoming matches,” said Baraza.
His counterpart Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo, who evaded journalists and dashed to the dressing room shortly after the game, was left living on borrowed time.
This was the second consecutive loss for Kenya Police after going down with the same scoreline against the KCB in the season opener.
Kenya Police came into the game after resting for a week since they were not in action last weekend after their match against Mathare United was postponed. This was occasioned by an active case at the Sports Dispute Tribunal (SDT) which has given a stay order on promotion/relegation.
