Incredible show down seems to be looming at the Azimio la Umoja coalition after the ODM Party fired back at Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka ambitions to succeed Raila Odinga and fly the Azimio flag in the 2027 general elections.

In a statement, ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna claimed that the party was not ready to hold any talks of who will succeed the ODM supremo in the Azimio leadership mantle.

“The political season just ended recently. We are a few months into the new tenure of the government of the day. It is too early to talk about the 2027 General Elections,” he said.

“The ODM party is now focused on how to fight for the needs of the Kenyan Citizens. ODM will for now not indulge in anything concerning the 2027 Presidential candidate,” he added.

This comes after Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua asked Raila to leave the Azimio leadership mantle to Kalonzo so that he can prepare for the 2027 polls.

Wambua insisted that it was the opportune time to plan on the political strategy to take over power from President William Ruto in the 2027 politics.

“We need enough time to popularize our candidate, visit as many parts of this country, and ensure that Kenyans begin to familiarize themselves with the idea of a Kalonzo presidency,” Wambua stated.

The ongoing push by Wiper Leaders to have Azimio Leader Raila Odinga to relinquish the opposition mantle to Kalonzo Musyoka has ignited reactions in the political arena.

Former Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana is the latest critic to castigate Musyoka for seeking the position saying Odinga is not set to retire anytime soon.

Kibwana opined that even in the event Odinga endorses the Wiper Leader, it will be an empty endorsement as his supporters would never back Musyoka’s political ambitions.

“Baba is not about to retire. His troops will dig in. Even if he was to say SKM tosha, would Baba’s voters embrace Kalonzo?” Kibwana twitted.

Kibwana stated that the only political fortune for Musyoka was to exit the Azimio coalition as there was nothing for him to clutch in order to up his stakes to win the 2027 presidency.

“Since 2004 when he became regional kingship, he has, like Chief Kasina of colonial times, used his position to largely lobby for self, family & a few friends. SKM’s Damascus moment would involve him suspending AZIMIO membership,” he said.

Musyoka has announced that he would make a grand statement which is set to give his political direction with Azimio coalition having lost to Ruto in the highly contested 2022 polls.
