Former Kisumu County Secretary Humphrey Nakitari is all set to be the next Member of Parliament for Matayos Constituency.

Nakitari, who has endeared himself to the area residents is totted as favorite to succeed the incumbent MP Geoffrey Odanga.

A spot check across Matayos Constituency has shown the Former county Secretary is set to ganner more than 47 percent of the vote in the August general elections following what residents have termed neglect by Odanga who has hardly initiated any meaningful development projects in Matayos except buying school buses and four thousand shilling bursary for students .The situation has been worsened by Raila Odinga led party’s move to suspend nominations in the night of Sunday afew hours to party nominations and unfairly award Odanga a direct ticket without allowing voters to choose their preferred leader.

Residents we interviewed castigated ODM move saying that the current MP was voted only to go silent with no projects to show for the last ten years.

The residents noted that through long and exemplary service in government Nakitari, has the network to initiate meaningful projects in the constituency

“The area MP is an absentee. We have seen what Nakitari has been doing and we will stand with him at the ballot,” Said Stephen Nyongesa, a business man at a general shop in Busia town.

Another resident Wilkester Nangoma who runs a popular food joint in Matayos said that he had witnessed Nakitari help the poor and other residents during floods that rocked lunga subllocation area displacing the residents from their homestead and will certainly support his candidature.

He said that he would vote for Raila Odinga in the presidential election and Nakitari as the area MP.

“Nakitari has demonstrated that he is a true leader. He has been a successful Senior Government employee but he remembers the lowly in society unlike the current MP whom we elected in 2013.
I support the president Uhuru Kenyatta and Azimio and I have seen Nakitari traversing Matayos asking people to vote for Raila. He is the best candidate to take Matayos forward,” Wilkester said

Pundits have opined that Nakitari,is a perfect fit to replace the area MP Geoffrey Odanga.
Others in the race include emmanuel osore, and Mr Joe khalende
