Political analyst Macharia Munene has claimed that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga may soon move up to the second-most influential position in the nation

Munene claims that the ceasefire between the two presidents may be in negotiations that might soon lead to a truce, precisely as is already being anticipated.

The president of the United States International University (USIU) contends that Raila has already appeared to concede defeat to Ruto, which is why he appears to be backing off from some of his previous criticism of the latter.

He contends that now that everything appears to be against him, Raila would be more than prepared to work with Ruto, and Kenyans should start preparing for a cease-fire.

For him, this will most likely see Ruto give Raila a big position in his government, bigger than his own Second in Command; Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

“It is good politics that makes Raila look civil and Ruto magnanimous. The backdoor handshake is likely to be realised with Raila getting a powerful position, more powerful than the DP post,” he told the Daily Nation.

The truce prediction has also been made by analyst Mark Bichachi, who says that Ruto would be willing to join hands with Raila for legitimacy.

He has also cited the 2027 election issue, adding that Raila, on the other hand, is after the statesman tittle.

“The President knows he has another term to run for. For him to be re-elected and gain legitimacy, he must have votes from many communities while, for Raila, the truce makes him a statesman capable of putting politics aside for the sake of development and progress for his people. This is a key benefit of the truce,” the commentator told the paper.
