Woman Who Asked Health CS Deborah Barasa Why SHA Isn’t Working Abducted
Grace Njoki Mulei, a 61-year-old retired nurse, was allegedly abducted shortly after questioning Health Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa about the effectiveness of the Strategic Health Agenda (SHA). The incident has left her family distressed and demanding answers from authorities.
Njoki, who had worked as a nurse for over 30 years, was at Ladnan Hospital in Eastleigh applying for a knee surgery when the ordeal occurred. Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, her son, George Mulei, said that she called him in a panic, claiming that individuals identifying themselves as officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had come for her.
“She was shouting frantically, saying they were taking her away. I rushed to Ladnan Hospital immediately, but by the time I arrived, she had already been taken,” George said.
The family later located Njoki at Capitol Hill Police Station, but their attempts to see her were unsuccessful. According to George, officers told them that Njoki had refused to write a statement and would remain in custody until the following morning.
“We don’t understand why they won’t let us see her. We are deeply concerned for her safety and well-being,” George said, expressing frustration over the lack of information about her alleged offense.
Njoki’s actions at the meeting, where she openly voiced her frustrations about SHA, may have prompted her detention. However, her family views the manner of her arrest as an intimidation tactic against citizens attempting to hold public officials accountable.
