Willstone Homes Boss Eljidio Kinyanjui Demands 2 Billion Compensation from Nation Media Group After Article Exposes How the Real Estate Firm Scammed Kenyans Living Abroad of Millions

Eljidio Kinyanjui, the managing director of Willstone Homes, is demanding Ksh 2 billion in compensation from Nation Media Group (NMG) following a scathing article in the Daily Nation, published on June 4, 2025, which exposed how the real estate firm allegedly scammed Kenyans living abroad of millions of shillings.

The article, titled “Unmasked: Faces in Home Buying Scams,” claimed that the company duped several clients, particularly from the diaspora, into paying for properties that were never delivered.

Kinyanjui, through his legal representative, N.M. Kamwendwa & Co., strongly refuted the allegations, accusing NMG of publishing false and malicious content without seeking comment from the firm.

He emphasized that the publication was intentionally damaging, casting a shadow over the company’s reputation and straining its relationships with both local and international clients.

In a letter to NMG, Kinyanjui’s legal team demanded that the media house retract the article and issue a full and unqualified apology in the Daily Nation’s June 5, 2025, edition.

The letter also demanded a compensation of Ksh 2 billion for the financial losses incurred due to the publication, which has reportedly affected the firm’s operations.

In addition to the article’s claims, NMG’s investigation revealed that Willstone Homes is facing legal challenges in Ruiru Law Courts. On March 8, 2025, the company was ordered to refund a couple over Ksh 6 million for a housing unit they had paid for.

The couple, Mr. Joseph Kirui and Ms. Mary Kirui, alleged that Willstone Homes failed to complete their housing project after receiving an initial payment of Sh5.3 million. The court ruled that the full sum of Ksh 6.8 million, including a deposit of Sh1.5 million, was refundable.

In a separate case, Mr. Kirui also claimed to have paid Sh8.2 million for another property, part of which was financed through a mortgage loan.

Despite completing the payment in February 2022, the firm failed to deliver the house, leading Mr. Kirui to seek legal redress. The court ruled in his favor, directing the company to deliver the property and refund Sh320,000.

Cynthia Mwanthi, another complainant, shared her experience, stating that she borrowed a loan from a local bank, which was guaranteed by her employer, to finance the down payment for a Willstone Homes property.

Despite completing payment in 2022, she was left with an uninhabitable property, describing the area as a “bush.”
