A shocking incident has occurred in Vihiga County after a 22-year-old man set his parents’ house on fire following an argument over a missing bag.

The young man, angered by the lack of a clear answer about the whereabouts of his bag when he needed it, took drastic action and torched the house. He has since gone into hiding.

His distraught parents have spoken to the media, narrating their ordeal and calling for urgent assistance.

The couple, who lost all their belongings in the fire, are now appealing to the government and well-wishers for shelter and clothing.

“I have lost everything in the fire, and I am pleading for help because I have nowhere to sleep. Tonight, I will sleep in the cold again. The cold is unbearable, and I don’t even have a blanket,” the father lamented.

“The house was burned down just because the child wanted his bag. When I delayed responding, I later found the house in flames. I don’t understand what came over him. He is 22 years old and has now disappeared,” he added.

His mother also called on the government to intervene, emphasizing that she has been left with nothing.

“My son started causing trouble and set the house on fire. I still don’t understand why he did it. I was devastated when I saw everything reduced to ashes. All my clothes are gone—I have nothing to wear. I appeal to the government to help me with a place to stay, even if it’s a small space,” she said.

Authorities are now searching for the young man as investigations into the incident continue.
