Serah Muhindi, a psychologist renowned for her expertise in travel, mental health, studying abroad, and business, recently detailed her relocation experience to the United Kingdom on her popular YouTube channel.
In a comprehensive video, Muhindi shared the intricacies of her journey, beginning with the crucial acquisition of travel documents.
Her pivotal moment came with being selected as a Chevening Scholar, a prestigious scholarship that funds a one-year Master’s program in the UK, alongside 1,400 other scholars.
“I started my application process in August 2022 and submitted it by November of the same year. The news of my selection arrived in June 2023, following an interview conducted earlier in February. Simultaneously, I had applied to universities and secured an unconditional offer from Loughborough University, where I am currently pursuing my studies,” she explained.
Having previously traveled to the US for the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Muhindi already held a passport.
She proceeded to apply for a UK visa, received a visa entry stamp, and upon arrival, obtained a biometric residence permit—an essential requirement for legal residence in the UK.
“On my travel day, I embarked on a journey involving three flights: Eldoret to Nairobi, Nairobi to Paris, and finally, Paris to Birmingham,” Muhindi recounted. She expressed gratitude for a lengthy 15-hour layover in Nairobi, which allowed her precious time with her family based there.
Highlighting the importance of meticulous preparation, Muhindi emphasized organizing all necessary travel documents, including air tickets, passports, visa copies, confirmation of studies, tuberculosis certificates, final awards for the Chevening Scholarship, COVID certificates, and backups in case of document loss.
