Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has responded to recent rumors suggesting he was removed from President William Ruto’s delegation to China, dismissing the claims as unfounded and distracting.
Addressing the public at the inauguration of the “Dishi na County” kitchen in Umoja, Sakaja made it clear that he had never been scheduled to travel with the delegation.
Reports surfaced that Sakaja had been ousted from the President’s trip to China, which was widely interpreted as a significant snub.
However, Sakaja clarified that these reports were inaccurate.
“Which plane are people talking about? I was supposed to be in Umoja today, not in China. Those are just rumors,” he said.
The Governor used the occasion to reiterate his dedication to fulfilling his administration’s promises.
Despite the swirling rumors, Sakaja focused on the positive developments within Nairobi, particularly highlighting the launch of 17 community kitchens across the city’s sub-counties.
Sakaja also addressed speculations regarding his political future, which have been fueled by rumors of an impending impeachment motion against him.
He firmly rejected these claims, urging his executive team to disregard the distractions and concentrate on their core duties.
“We have a mandate, and we don’t have time for rumors. Our priority is to work for our people, not to engage in gossip,” he asserted.
The Governor’s remarks were supported by several Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), including Umoja MCA Mark Ronaldo and Korogocho MCA Absalom Odhiambo.
They both dismissed the impeachment rumors and urged the administration to remain focused on service delivery.
Odhiambo pointedly remarked, “This is not Meru County; we will not impeach our Governor,” while Ronaldo emphasized that any underperforming executives should be addressed internally before considering drastic measures like impeachment.
