Busia Referral Hospital Turns Into a Death Trap as Young Teacher Dies Due to Lack of Ambulance and Alleged Negligence
Â
Busia Referral Hospital is once again under scrutiny after a Samia teacher, Moses Dismus Oduor, died following what family and eyewitnesses describe as blatant medical negligence.
Â
Oduor was involved in a road accident on Friday evening while on his way to pick up his wife.
Â
He was rushed to Sio Port Subcounty Hospital before being referred to Busia Referral Hospital.
Â
Despite arriving unconscious, it took two days for a radiologist to review his head CT scan, which was conducted on Saturday.
Â
By Monday at 2 p.m., the report was still unavailable, with staff citing the radiologist’s absence.
Â
It wasn’t until relatives raised alarm and contacted top management that Dr. Namudala Emukule released the report, confirming that the teacher was in critical condition and required immediate ICU care.
Â
However, the discharge and transfer process took an additional 2.5 hours due to unavailable ambulance services and delayed systems.
Â
By the time Oduor was admitted to Life Care Hospital around 8 p.m., his condition had worsened.
Â
He was taken straight to ICU but passed away shortly after.
