Calvince Okoth, popularly known as Gaucho, a long-time die-hard supporter of Raila Odinga, has once again stirred controversy after being spotted in public dishing out large sums of money while urging fellow youth to support the government.
In a viral undated video, Gaucho is seen handing a popular political activist Omosh One Hour a bundle of KSh 30,000 while telling him to switch allegiance to President William Ruto and other leaders in government.
“Mimi sasa nawaomba tu support serikali. We support Raila Odinga, Opiyo Wandayi, John Mbadi, na wale viongozi wetu wote walioko kwenye serikali,” Gaucho says in the video, while waving the money before handing it to Omosh.
He goes on to warn Omosh against following opposition politicians, claiming they disappear during tough times.
“Hata ukiwa na shida ya Sh500 hawatapatikana. Watakutafuta tu wakati wanataka msaada kutoka kwako na watakuletea handout kidogo,” he added.
Gaucho declared that loyalty to key leaders such as Raila Odinga, William Ruto, and Interior PS Raymond Omollo would ensure continued support and prosperity.
“Leo nawaambia, mkiwa royal kwa Raila, Ruto, na viongozi wengine wa serikali, mbele tutasaidiana,” he insisted, a statement that surprised many of his long-time followers.
His remarks come at a time when he has been increasingly spotted rubbing shoulders with top government officials.
Just weeks ago, he was photographed enjoying a luxury vacation at a five-star resort in Zanzibar, raising questions about the source of his sudden wealth.
Once known for his fierce anti-government stance and street-level mobilization in support of Raila Odinga, Gaucho’s recent behavior has triggered speculation that he may have shifted his political loyalty.
