Prophet Owuor is After My Life: Woman Behind Cult-Like Church Exposé Says DCI is Now After Her
A few days after her revealing interview with Lynn Ngugi, Josephine Lwal, a former member of one of Kenya’s largest religious organizations, is facing threats.
The 2024 video, which has gone viral since its release on January 23, detailed her disturbing experiences within the church, which she refers to as a “cult.”
According to Josephine, representatives of the church have allegedly threatened her, claiming that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is looking for her if the video is not taken down.
Shocking Revelation
Josephine Lwal, a water and environment engineer, appeared on Lynn Ngugi’s platform to share her personal experiences as a former member of the church.
Speaking on the show, Lynn noted:
“Last year, we said 2024 would be the year of truth. Now, in 2025, we continue with the same mission—to learn, unlearn, and relearn. Almost ten days ago, we hosted an incredible woman, Josephine Lwal, who shared her journey in what she described as a cult. Despite her revelations, she never mentioned the name of any prophet or leader. She remained very respectful throughout the discussion, which many viewers even acknowledged in the comments.”
Josephine spoke about the troubling practices she witnessed in the church, which she found both alarming and oppressive. Her account resonated with many viewers, highlighting how individuals can be manipulated and drawn into a cult-like environment.
“Off-camera, Josephine is just as thoughtful and composed as she is on-screen. She has done an incredible job of maintaining her sanity despite what she went through in that church. When you listen to her, you can’t help but feel relieved that she is safe and still holds onto her faith.”
Although Josephine did not directly name the church or its leader—who is often referred to as the “Mighty Prophet”—her account sparked widespread discussion.
“Even though she could have mentioned the man’s name, she chose not to. She told me, ‘Lynn, my intention is not to focus on this man of God but to educate people about cults and how easy it is to get drawn into them.'”
The Threats Begin
Shortly after the interview aired, Lynn revealed that representatives of the church attempted to have the video taken down.
Josephine later disclosed that she was contacted by a church representative who urged her to speak to Lynn and request the removal of the video.
“A representative from the church approached me, requesting that I ask Lynn to pull down the content. But I told them that Lynn’s channel is an open platform where people share their stories. I simply shared mine. So, what offense have I committed? Who is pressing charges?”
She further claimed that the representative told her that the DCI’s cybercrime unit was allegedly looking for her over the matter.
“I was informed that the issue had been escalated to the cybercrime unit because a picture of the ‘man of God’ appeared in the video. But I asked, what exactly is my criminal offense? If anyone has authority over the content, it’s Lynn, not me.”
Lynn Ngugi Speaks Out
Lynn Ngugi has since called on her followers to pray for Josephine, urging the authorities to focus on protecting her rather than investigating her for exercising her freedom of speech.
“I know this clip will be watched by the DCI, and I hope they understand that their priority should be protecting Josephine, not arresting her. The focus should be on her safety, not on appeasing a so-called Mighty Prophet who wasn’t even mentioned in the video.”
