President William Ruto has appointed several members of the opposition Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to his cabinet.
This decision, announced during a speech in Tharaka Nithi, underscores the president’s commitment to bridging political divides and creating a cohesive government that represents the diverse interests of all Kenyans.
President Ruto explained that the new appointments are part of his strategy to build a broad-based government.
He emphasized that his administration seeks to end the era of biased leadership and political divisions that have historically hindered Kenya’s progress.
“Yesterday I formed a government that will bring all Kenyans together because I have decided that there is no need to be biased,” he stated, calling on citizens to unite in supporting the government’s efforts to promote development and prosperity.
The inclusion of ODM members in key cabinet positions marks a departure from traditional political rivalries.
Among the new appointees are John Mbadi, nominated for the Treasury, Opiyo Wandayi for Energy and Petroleum, Ali Hassan Joho for Mining, and Wycliffe Oparanya for the Ministry of Co-operatives.
By bringing opposition figures into his government, President Ruto aims to harness diverse perspectives and expertise, ultimately strengthening governance and policy implementation.
This move comes on the heels of President Ruto’s pledge to form an inclusive government.
In addition to cabinet appointments, President Ruto has called for an end to anti-government demonstrations, which he described as counterproductive.
He highlighted concerns about criminal elements infiltrating peaceful protests, leading to violence and property damage.
“I urge you Kenyans, no need of destroying our country, no need of demonstrations and killing one another. Let us not destroy Kenya. Let us safeguard the country and bring development,” he implored.
