Neno Evangelism founder, Pastor James Maina Ng’ang’a, offered a spirited and humorous reaction to President William Ruto’s dramatic decision to sack all Kenyan Cabinet secretaries.
The president made this announcement during a national address on Thursday, July 11, sparking widespread reactions across the country.
Exempt from the purge were Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who also serves as the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Pastor Ng’ang’a, known for his dynamic and often controversial sermons, didn’t shy away from addressing the political shake-up during his daily evening service.
Speaking to his congregation, Ng’ang’a switched to English, saying, “For those who don’t speak English, please switch off your TV. Today I want to talk in English because my friend, the Minister of Roads (Kipchumba Murkomen), has gone home.” His remarks elicited laughter from the congregation.
Ng’ang’a claimed he had previously warned Minister Murkomen about interfering with a servant of God.
“Go, I told you you will go home. I am still coming after you. I swear before God. Even in your grave, you will tell people that God is in heaven,” he declared emphatically.
The pastor further expressed his appreciation for President Ruto’s decisive action.
“Thank you very much, Your Excellency, for kicking these people (Cabinet secretaries) out. I wonder if you also chased the MP who criticized our phones,” he added, hinting at past grievances.
Ng’ang’a’s humor shone through as he interacted with his church members, laughing upon learning that no Cabinet secretary had been spared.
“We have hit how many? All of them? Even Kindiki?” he asked, bursting into laughter. “If today I met you, I would have bought you (President Ruto) a cup of tea. It’s just that I can’t find you. Kick them out. Do you remember I have had problems with this government?”
