Patrick Wepukhuli, the owner of a Toyota Harrier that made headlines after overturning in Kitale, has come forward to set the record straight.
The incident, which sparked widespread speculation on social media, was the subject of various theories, with some claiming the car was in the possession of a car wash attendant at the time of the accident.
In an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke, Wepukhuli, an official with the Football Kenya Federation in Saboti sub-county, revealed that he was driving the vehicle when the accident occurred.
Contrary to the viral rumors, Wepukhuli explained that the car overturned after hitting a deep pothole on the highway as he was heading to Wamalwa Kijana Referral Hospital.
“Yes, it is my car, and I was the one driving. It overturned after hitting a deep pothole while I was on my way to the county referral hospital. It was not at a car wash as people are saying,” Wepukhuli clarified.
The viral footage also included a man who was visibly frustrated, leading to further confusion about the circumstances of the accident.
Some believed the man was upset about the Harrier’s condition. However, Wepukhuli set the record straight by explaining that the individual in the video was actually expressing his frustration over damage to his motorcycle, which was affected by the same accident.
The man, who appeared to be addressing Wepukhuli, was heard angrily speaking about his motorbike, saying, “Instead of telling me how to go about the problem, you are talking about Kijana. How will that help me? Just tell me how my vehicle will be pulled out.”
