When Kenyans took to the streets over the 2024 financial bill that would have imposed hefty taxes on them, city businessman Khalif Kairo was one of the most vocal protesters.
He could be seen on his X platform sharing content about the effects of the finance bill, calling on Kenyans to throng the streets to fight the government. Kairo went silent after the chaotic protests that saw youths invade Parliament.
Kairo was among the protesters who stormed into Parliament after overpowering police officers. It is now emerging that the state is using a video of him inciting the youths to pull down the Kenyan flag in Parliament to intimidate him.
He was reportedly told to remain silent, or he would be arrested and prosecuted.
On Wednesday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) released photos of wanted suspects believed to have orchestrated unlawful activities during the anti-government protests, now in their third week. In a statement issued on X, the DCI released photos of the wanted individuals, who have been directed to report to the nearest police station for further police action.
“The individuals whose images/photos appear below are wanted by the police for their unlawful activities during the anti-finance bill demonstrations. We therefore advise them to report to the nearest police station for further police action,” the DCI stated.
