A viral video of a young boy, Henry Omondi, passionately protesting against the rumored sale of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has moved many Kenyans.
The video, which spread rapidly across social media platforms, caught the attention of Nairobi businessman Kevin Otiende, who has stepped forward to change Omondi’s life for the better.
Otiende met Omondi, who is homeless and has been living on the streets where he was filmed protesting, and was struck by the young boy’s intelligence and determination.
Despite having dropped out of school at Class 2, Omondi can read and write proficiently. Otiende described him as having “inborn intelligence” and was impressed by how well-informed he was.
Moved by Omondi’s story and potential, Otiende has promised to ensure Omondi receives an education at a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution.
This opportunity aims to equip Omondi with practical skills to become a mechanic, which aligns with his aspirations. Otiende expressed his hopes for Omondi’s future, saying, “The journey of transformation for this young man has started… In a few days, we have identified a TVET institution that he can join.”
The video of Omondi lamenting the alleged sale of JKIA touched the hearts of many Kenyans, leading to a public outcry for assistance to help him escape life on the streets.
Recently, it was revealed that Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) received a Ksh 242 billion proposal from Adani Airport Holdings Limited to manage JKIA for 30 years. This revelation has fueled public interest and concern regarding the future of the airport.
