Martha Karua, the leader of the Narc Kenya party and former running mate of the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition in the 2022 election, has ruled out any possibility of joining the Kenya Kwanza government.

On Saturday morning, a Twitter user posted in support of the former Gichugu MP for the vacant Attorney General position, stating that her advice would greatly benefit President William Ruto’s government.

“I support @MarthaKarua for the position of Attorney General. Her counsel is greatly needed by the government. Martha should take up the position immediately,” @PeterKariukiKE wrote, attaching his statement to a profile banner of Ms. Karua.

In her response, the former Justice Minister made it clear that she had no intention of taking the position.

“Thank you, not interested,” Martha Karua replied.

Her response affirms her strong decision not to work with the Kenya Kwanza government.

On Thursday, the former Gichugu MP informed about her party’s decision to withdraw from the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition. This came after some members of ODM, another party forming Azimio, were appointed to ministerial positions.

The decision was communicated in a letter sent to the coalition’s secretary-general, Junet Mohammed, by the acting secretary-general of Narc Kenya, Asha Bashir.

“Please be informed that our stay in the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition is untenable due to the prevailing political developments,” Bashir stated.

“As NARC Kenya, by way of this letter, we hereby give notice of our withdrawal from the Coalition as provided in clause (s) of the Coalition Agreement. This notice takes effect from the date of this letter,” she added.

Karua, via tweet, stated, “Our stay in the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance is no longer tenable.”

Her party’s intention to withdraw from Azimio is surprising given her assurance during a radio interview on Tuesday that her relationship with the coalition’s leader, Raila Odinga, was strong.

“We spoke not long ago, and we will be able to speak again; things are clear,” Karua said.

In rejecting the idea of being part of a national unity government, Karua instead called for the strengthening of the opposition to continue putting pressure on the Kenya Kwanza government to fulfill its promISE.
