In a heartbreaking incident in Kisumu’s Manyatta estate, 32-year-old Felix Owiti fatally stabbed his wife, Jecinta Atieno, 26, before taking his own life.
The tragic event occurred early Monday morning at their home in the Metameta unit.
Owiti, a manager at Osiepe bar in the Kona Legio area, reportedly attacked his wife, who worked as a cleaner at the same bar.
According to authorities, Owiti used a knife to stab Atieno in the chest, killing her instantly. Following the brutal act, he hanged himself on the rooftop of their house.
The motive behind this devastating act remains unclear, though neighbors have mentioned ongoing domestic issues between the couple. The couple’s three young children—two boys and a girl—were left in the wake of this tragedy. The discovery of the bodies was made by the couple’s daughter, who alerted a bodaboda rider on his way to school. The rider then informed local authorities.
Kisumu Central OCPD Peter Mulai confirmed the incident, noting that the bodies were found at approximately 7 a.m. There were no signs of commotion reported by the neighbors.
The bodies have been transported to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination. The police have launched a full investigation into the case.
