On Wednesday, 6th June 2025, the Daily Nation published an article accusing Mahiga Homes, a prominent real estate developer, of defrauding numerous clients, including local and diaspora buyers, who allegedly lost millions of shillings in incomplete home purchases.
In response, Mahiga Homes has vehemently denied the allegations, labeling the story a “fabricated account” aimed at damaging the company’s hard-earned reputation.
The company also clarified that the claims made in the article were baseless and misleading, asserting that Mahiga Homes continues to operate with the utmost transparency and commitment to delivering quality homes to its clients.
The Daily Nation article, under the headline “Scandals as Kenyans Lose Millions,” highlighted a number of accusations against Mahiga Homes, including claims that the company had sold homes that were never completed and that its director, Patrick Muchoki, was facing legal battles over fraudulent business practices.
The article further claimed that Mahiga Homes had failed to deliver on promises made to clients who had already paid substantial amounts for homes, with projects in Ruiru, Kiambu County, and other locations reportedly left unfinished.
However, Mahiga Homes has strongly refuted these accusations.
“The claims published by Daily Nation are simply false and unfounded,” said Patrick Muchoki, CEO of Mahiga Homes.
“We have always maintained the highest standards of accountability and integrity in all our dealings. The story published today is part of a deliberate attempt to damage our reputation and mislead the public.”
Muchoki went on to explain that, while some of the company’s projects had experienced delays—largely due to the impact of the global pandemic and supply chain disruptions—there was no intention to deceive or defraud any clients.
“We acknowledge that some of our projects faced setbacks, but these were due to external factors beyond our control. We have been in constant communication with all affected clients, providing them with updates and offering solutions to resolve any issues.”
The company also emphasized that any legal disputes mentioned in the Daily Nation article were related to minor contractual disagreements, not fraudulent behavior.
“It is important to note that Mahiga Homes is involved in ongoing discussions with a few clients regarding the completion of their homes, but these are isolated cases that do not reflect our overall business practices,” Muchoki added.
In a bid to protect its reputation, Mahiga Homes has threatened legal proceedings against Daily Nation, seeking redress for the harm caused by the false reporting. “We will not stand by while baseless allegations are allowed to damage the trust we have built with our clients over the years,” Muchoki affirmed.
Despite the recent media controversy, Mahiga Homes remains committed to its mission of providing affordable and quality housing solutions to Kenyans.
The company has pledged to continue delivering on its promises and to work diligently to resolve any outstanding issues with clients. “We have built a reputation for reliability and trust, and we will continue to uphold those values,” said Muchoki.
In conclusion, Mahiga Homes urges the public to disregard the unsubstantiated claims made in the Daily Nation article and assures both current and potential clients that the company is fully committed to delivering the homes they have paid for.
